A truly wonderful weekend

On Friday the kids and I went to the Stone Zoo in Massachusetts. We had a great time, the kids loved the animals and it wasn’t too crowded. Since we were in the area I decided to drive over to Melrose to check out a yarn store there, Sit ‘N Knit. The shop was lovely, the kids were well behaved and much yarn was felt-up. I only came away with a small purchase, some Wildfoote sock yarn in crystal pink and the most amazingly soft nylon yarn, Oh My by Plymouth Yarn.
Oh My
I couldn’t stop stroking it. It’s my new pet yarn. Think baby bunny or fresh new kitten soft. I am either going to knit a teddy bear or perhaps a scarf.

On Saturday we drove up the NH seacoast to the most wonderful little beach.

Unfortunately I’m the only one who forgot to put on sun block so I got a bit toasty. (I’m bad, I know). Anyway, that’s the bad part. The good part is we had a great time playing in the water and sand and before we knew it, it was time to go. (Our first clue was the sand toys floating away with the rising tide.)
As we were turning to get onto 1A I noticed a flag with what looked like the word “yarn” spelled out backwards. Now, if you’re anything like me, you keep a lookout wherever you travel for yarn stores. I screamed to Matt, “stop, go back there’s a yarn store!” and he dutifully pulled onto the shoulder and turned it around. Now, it’s four in the afternoon, there are two sleeping small children in the back (well one was asleep the other nearly asleep) and my husband was tired and sandy and wet. I have to give credit where it’s due, a man that will wait in the car after a day at the beach while you go and drool over yarn, is a keeper.

Sunday was a nice relaxing day, and I actually finished a sock! I also got some sewing done and have listed a couple of sock bags on my etsy shop (see right) and started a cute little tote.

All I need to do now is sew in a lining and I’m good to go! Hope your weekend was great too.

Welcome

Baby Girl welcoming you to the blog:

this is an audio post - click to play

By the way, she's saying "Hi Jackie" because she couldn't say "hello". Give her a break she's only 19 months.

On to the knitting content. I have a few socks in progress that I will share: first is the ubiquitous Jaywalker done in Lorna's Laces Layette.

Next up, Broadripple from the Summer '03 issue of Knitty, in Cascade Fixation

and finally, from Knitting Vintage Socks, the Gentleman's Sock with Lozenge Pattern I'm knitting for Matt. I don't know what I'm thinking knitting men's socks on zeros, but I really like the pattern so far.

Also on the needles, er, almost on the needles, I'm swatching for the cutest baby dress ever. No seriously, you need to knit this dress. I also love this yarn, it's Knitpicks new superwash worsted, Swish. I just don't love the color. I think I'll end up knitting it in pink.
